El circuito de Nurburgring está situado en las cercanías de Adenau, al pie del Castillo de Eifel. Fue inaugurado en 1927 y ha hospedado numerosas ediciones del Gp de Alemania. Es un circuito legendario en el amplio sentido de la palabra. Allí han tenido lugar gestas y tragedias que han dado entidad a la F1 desde su nacimiento. Pero siguiendo los dictados de las normas de seguridad, en el trazado originario no se corren ya carreras de F1. Se construyó otro trazado que respetase las normas impuestas y que garantizara la rápida evacuación de los heridos en caso de accidente.
Realmente, fue este el desencadenante de la jubilación del viejo "infierno verde". A raíz del accidente sufrido por Niki Lauda en 1976 se decidió poner fin a la actividad de la F1 en este trazado, objetivamente peligroso y difícil de mantener en plenas condiciones. Su inusual longitud (22.835 metros) y su conformación llena de subidas y bajadas hacia que los mejores pilotos tuvieran aquí manera de demostrar su valía al margen del vehículo que condujeran.
El nuevo Nurburgring es un ejemplo de circuito moderno, dotado de todas las medidas de seguridad y servicios para el espectador.
