The circuit was inaugurated in 1940 to the outskirts of Sao Paulo, between two Great Lakes. This detail gave its original name him: Interlakes. With the passage of the years, the city, in its growth, has arrived until the same doors of the circuit. With a straight line of remarkable goal (for its length) in slope, this circuit has difficult and fast curves in his first half and a very delicate mixed part in the center. The track of Interlakes extends by 4,311 m.s according to the recent measures provided by the FIA.
Its establishment on a very particular ground and the rain regime of the zone, causes that the track is always very bacheada, in spite of its frequent renovations. The priorities of setting of the chassis focus to obtain a single-seater that absorbs the land inequalities well, and that maintain a high level of adhesion in the slow curves that provide a low level of aerodynamic support, as well as to obtain the commitment that allows to reach the greater possible speed in the two important straight lines of the circuit.
Interlakes have enough zones where the advancement is feasible, which, next to its topographic configuration that allows to see great part of the circuit from the goal tribunes, confers an appreciable level to him of spectacularity. The climatology in the neighborhoods of Sao Paulo usually is hot, humid and always exists the possibility that a torrential heavy shower takes place; although asphalt is dried quickly, as soon as stops rain. A difficulty added to one crushes more mythical.
In the decade of the ' 70, Interlakes had a greater length and its beauty was incomparable. The difficulty to maintain in good conditions a so long track forced the organizers, first a to yield the GP to Rio de Janeiro in its track of Jacarepagua, and later to remodelar the layout giving him the aspect and dimension that now we know.
