Fernando Alonso no fue primero (el primero fue Timo Glock y su Toyota) ni tampoco fue segundo (puesto para Lewis Hamilton y su nuevo McLaren) pero Fernando Alonso acabó tercero, y tan sólo a tres décimas de Hamilton, con el coche R27 del año pasado modificado con unos pequeños detalles, a ver qué hará con el R28.
La lluvia frustró la lucha que sepodía haber dado entre los tres pilotos que el año pasado estuvieron disputando el campeonato hasta la última carrera. Y es que el agua no permitió a los equipos de Fórmula 1 seguir los programas de entrenamientos de trabajo previstos.
Fernando Alonso, dio 49 vueltas y fue el piloto que menos kilómetros hizo de los 14 coches que salieron a la pista, Alonso intentó mejorar sus registros montando neumáticos nuevos a falta de tan solo siete minutos para el final de la sesión. Debido a un problema mecánico de David Coulthard hubo bandera roja y esto le impidió completar una vuelta lanzada y Fernando Alonso tuvo que conformarase con el tercer mejor tiempo. A la conclusión de la sesión, Alonso explicó que había dado menos vueltas de las previstas porque «no tenía lógica entrenar con el coche viejo en condiciones cambiantes».
Fernando Alonso comenzó en el circuito de Jerez un intenso programa de pruebas que incluirá 17 jornadas de entrenamientos, todas en circuitos españoles, hasta que arranque el campeonato del mundo el 16 de marzo en Melbourne. Tras este test inicial en Jerez, Fernando Alonso rodará el 22 de enero en Valencia .

El mes pasado se dijo que la compañía aseguradora Mutua Madrileña seguiría los pasos de Fernando Alonso y abandonaría el equipo McLaren Mercedes, parece ser que no será así.
Aunque los logotipos 'MM' de la aseguradora Mutua Madrileña ya no aparecieron en el nuevo coche MP4-23 que fue presentado el pasado lunes en
Stuttgart, Mutua Madrileña sí que seguía estando presente en los monos de los pilotos de McLaren, Lewis Hamilton, Heikki
Kovalainen, Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett.
